The classic Kubus candlestick was designed in 1962. Intended as a rebellion against the ornate, elaborate home, it is informed by a sense of functionalism and mathematical precision. The result was the iconic square-shaped lacquered steel frame topped with candleholders, a design today prized and admired the world over for its elegant simplicity.

Architect Mogens Lassen possessed a craftsman’s understanding of the material without ever compromising on simplicity or functionality.

He was ahead of his time when he designed the Kubus Candleholder 40 years ago as a reaction to the over-ornate and elaborate candleholders customary at the time. His candleholder was designed with almost mathematical precision-a sharp, cubical frame with cylindrical candle holders on top of it. Made of galvanized lacquered steel, it is heat-treated to 350 degrees Celsius.

Today the Kubus candlesticks in their pure simplicity are considered a design icon and are exhibited in a number of museums and magazines worldwide.
